Hey Everyone! I made a pie!
I don't know if you know this, but I hate cooking. Like really REALLY hate it! But I actually love baking. I don't know why, but it's just so much easier. I mean you can't really go wrong with sugar, butter, and sprinkles. And if all else fails, then just add more frosting! That's what I say.
I really have only made cookies, cakes, brownies, and a few types of breads. So I thought baking a pie would be a fun challenge. And a challenge it was!
I started off by asking the roommate what kind of pie she would eat, because that is who will be eating most of it, and she said cherry. So off I went pinteresting recipes and I came across this one
(just in case you are interested)
The most stressful part about baking or cooking is the grocery shopping. So I was happy that this recipe was fairly straight forward. The only thing I needed to google was what butter pats were...it's just cut up butter. HAHA!
And since I am really bad at math, I bought way too many bags of frozen cherries. I only needed 3, not a gazillion. Oops! Oh well, another pie for another day.
Long story short....this was an all night thing. Not just like a quick, "Oh, hmmm, I think I feel like making a pie." I started the crust at 4:00pm and pulled the pie out at 9:30pm. There was a lot of waiting for things to chill, and mixing it by hand took FOREVER and now I have to wait for another 3 hours before I can even cut into it!
Since we all have google, I feel like there are no excuses for failure, so I did a little bit of research on pie crusts and found out that there are so many different ways to make and to decorate them. I got really excited and decided that if I was going to do this, then I was going to go ALL OUT and make it the yummiest and most beautiful cherry pie ever by doing a braided lattice crust.
I didn't even know what that was, but I was gonna do it.
But by 8:30, when I am trying to cut thin strips of dough and the heat from my hands is making it sticky and I just want a piece of flippin' pie already, I settled for a basic weave...which still didn't turn out that pretty and was kinda hard, so it's probably better that I didn't try to braid tiny pieces. #goals
And after all that work, it leaked on the bottom edge! I don't even know why or how!
But I'm sure it still tastes good. I know, cuz I took a bite! But I will let it cool overnight and we will enjoy all that hard work tomorrow, with a big scoop of ice cream!
That's all I have to say about that!

This is so fantastic! I've made a blueberry pie before, and while it was a tedious process, the result was wonderful! My newest baking feat is the attempt at the cinnamon roll.....which came out....a bit burned. But I let them chill overnight so I could eat them this morning. My hope is that they will taste good.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually going to be writing a post on my blog about it. So, if you feel led, feel free to check it out!
